Go ahead, play with fire
Shou sugi ban is a traditional Japanese style of burning wood. Most often translated as "burned cedar", shou sugi ban in the United States is often made with cypress, douglas fir, oak, pine, or other heat-tolerant species. Shou sugi ban is often used as interior wall cladding, exterior siding, or as a creative addition to new or existing stand-alone pieces.
Shou sugi ban is certainly a niche design element. While it is not suited for every space or application, when it is appropriately employed, shou sugi ban elevates a space from the ordinary to the extraordinary. What can we burn for you?
