About us

Fusion Custom Furniture and Design was established in 2015 to create high-quality custom furniture, design elements, and superior finish work for residential and commercial customers.

Before founding Fusion Custom Furniture and Design, I completed my 'core curriculum' in the trades. For years, I worked in roofing, siding, and framing. I transitioned into interior finish work and, later, was fortunate to train and work under incredible mentors in furniture making, casework, and millwork. I learned how to make shou sugi ban along the way and have been manufacturing it commercially since launching Fusion in 2015.

Earlier, I pursued an undergraduate degree in physics (hence our name) with a minor study in English writing (technical writing).

What you can expect from us

No matter the scope, we approach our projects with an intention to collaborate.

From the beginning, it's our job to help you bring your vision to life. Early on, that means providing material and finish samples for approval. That also means demonstrating competence; we hope you spend some time reviewing some of our sample projects to that end. Competence is also demonstrated in communication and you can expect us to be thorough, professional, and honest in our dealings.

Ordering custom furniture and design elements is an exciting endeavor, but it can also be nerve-wracking. It doesn't have to be stressful. We know that the stress often comes down to deadlines and knowing exactly where your project is in production is critical. With Fusion Custom Furniture and Design, LLC, stay in the 'know' with production updates—a service we offer for custom fabrications. They are optional, brief "reports" throughout your project, outlining progress made, complete with current production photos. Please inquire. When a project calls for it, we offer:

  • 3D modeling
  • Shop drawings
  • A robust approval process
  • A thorough review and discussion of critical details
  • Various report / "deliverables", as appropriate
  • White-glove installation
  • Got a question?

See if we answer it here. If not, feel free to reach out!

We are based in northern New Hampshire and primarily serve the residential communities of Coös [KOH-oss], Carroll, Grafton, and Belnap counties, New Hampshire. We happily serve residential communities in all of New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont; however, expenses may accrue for project-related travel.

We ship furniture pieces and design elements nationwide. Please be advised that shipping / freight charges may apply.

We serve commercial customers across New England and, indeed, across America. Our millwork can be delivered or shipped to your facility or site by a method of your choosing. Installation services for commercial customers are available across the Northeast. Please be advised that shipping / freight charges may apply.

We are custom fabricators and installation experts who focus on elevating interior (and exterior) spaces. We pride ourselves on taking your idea and making it a reality with wood and steel. We make furniture, design elements, and custom millwork for you home, business, or venue.

Millwork includes things like doors, wall panels and cladding, as well as trim and moulding. We manufacture custom millwork—including shou sugi ban—for small and large-scale installations. Casework includes cabinets, built-in fixtures, bins, and other so-called "box work". The manufacture and installation of those components is the essence of finish work and what drives us.

Custom installations are a large part of what we do. That includes installing residential and commercial cabinetry, trim, millwork, built-in fixtures, stairs and rails, and other elements that qualify as finish work. We work with homeowners, business owners, contractors, millwork companies, and designers to create unique interiors and centerpieces. Even if your cabinets or design elements are not manufactured by Fusion Custom Furniture and Design, LLC, we are happy to be your trusted installation expert!

"Custom" is an intimidating word... It sounds expensive.

Let's be honest, sometimes it is. But then, we're probably thinking of an exotic hardwood credenza or a big live-edge walnut slab table (at least that's what we think of). But "custom" doesn't have to be synonymous with "luxury". It simply means that your needs and wants aren't quite satisfied by the box-store offerings: "I love this, but I want it like that!"—sound familiar? That's you. Be you. Embrace it. At Fusion Custom Furniture and Design, LLC, "custom" means capturing exactly what you want, exactly how you need.

More often than not, going "custom" is a financial boon. Whether that's because our superior materials and construction lead to longer lifespan and value, our custom installations ensure safe and lasting integrity, or because you won't have to hire someone to come in later to repair or replace common, mass-manufactured, or shoddily-constructed pieces or poor installations. Plus, money can't buy your satisfaction when your visitors exclaim: Oh, wow. Look at that!

But! Money can buy many other things that you need and want in your project, or life in general. That's why we're committed to keeping more of it in your pocket. Our pricing for custom furniture and design elements are based on materials and we offer competitive installation prices. Let us make "custom" your new standard.

For us, "custom" is not just meant for the pieces we build; it applies to each installation we perform. A custom installation means that we work with your environment—we scribe along irregular surfaces; cut the correct angles, not corners; and work to achieve your vision. Put another way: the cabinets you purchased at the store were meant to go in a home, but that doesn't mean they were made for your home. That's where custom, professional installation makes all the difference. Because how your fixtures and design elements are installed makes a difference.

So how do you start? It's easy—it starts with your vision and a phone call. What can we help you build?

Our fabrication shop works with wood and steel and our installation team can handle nearly any 'finish' material. Whatever your taste, Fusion Custom Furniture and Design custom engineers with the materials that suit your project. From the shop, our 'bench made' products are milled from hand-selected stock (based on your specifications) so they match the look you’re searching for. Our steel fabrication and finishing ranges from an 'industrial' look to a cleaner 'sleek' look (with a variety of optional patina finishes), based on your preferences.

Our favorites? We cut our teeth on walnut and white oak furniture. More broadly, we love many of our domestic hardwoods: alder, cypress, hickory, maple, and poplar. We are admittedly a bit snobby about plywood when it comes to engineered construction; we default to domestically-made euro-core multiply. It's a bit pricey, but when quality matters, what it's made of matters. Our shou sugi ban is usually manufactured with cypress, douglas fir, or vertical grain pine (though there are other usable species).

For our casework—cabinets, built-ins, etc.—we source domestically-produced hardwood ply. Wherever possible, we partner with our local and regional producers, manufacturers, and distributors to source our materials and components. While we strive to source as many of our materials and components domestically, there are instances where imported products are fantastic alternatives—we'll just pick on Rubio Monocoat as a finish, for example, which is made in Belguim.

Our furniture, design elements, and millwork are all proudly made in New Hampshire—proudly made in America.

Absolutely! We believe that samples are a critical part of the decision-making process. Be sure to visit our Samples page (coming soon!).

Shop samples start at $10 and are about a foot long and 4-6in wide (steel samples generally come in 6" square pieces).

Project samples start at $50 and are milled to your profile, color, and finish. These come in sets of three; one each for the client, contractor, and designer.

To order samples, you can give us a call and give us the details like material/species, color, and finish. It is also important for us to understand the application of the material; this helps us be your partner by recommending finishes and installation considerations—addressing problems before they're problems.

Material expenses: we love making a lot of custom material profiles, colors, and finishes—it's what we do—but material costs add up. We know, it stinks. As a result, please be aware that samples are subject to a material expense, when applicable. This occurs when a sample or material exceeds a "reasonable cost". For example, a sample of something exotic, like cocobola, would include the cost of the material in addition to the standard sample price. Custom finishes or 'blind' color-matching may also accrue material expenses. Visit our Samples page (coming soon!) to learn more.

Yes, but not always. Good grief! The thing is: our estimates are thoughtful, time-intensive documents (see "What does your estimate include?" below) and often incur project-related expenses (e.g. material expenses, shipping, travel, etc.). However, not every estimate is like that—naturally—so we use our discretion and vow to be upfront about estimate fees before writing it up or incurring expenses. We like to err on the side of not charging an estimate fee. As an example, if you want to know how much it would be for 40ft2 of shou sugi ban, there wouldn't be an estimate fee for that; however, if we create a thorough estimate for an in-the-future project, we may charge you an estimate fee. If you choose to proceed after receiving an estimate (and were charged for it), that can be deducted from the invoice total.

Our estimates can vary in comprehensiveness. Depending on your project and needs, our estimates may contain 3D renderings, shop drawings, material samples, a schematic take-off report, and/or a site visit report. For millwork, our estimates may include material and profile details and dimensions, colorant and finish specs, material samples, a schematic take-off report, and (upon request) may include installation or COC documentation.

We try to make it easy to get what you want, so we give you more choices. We partner with Stripe to process payments through the Fusion website; a link to pay with this method will be available on your invoice as a QR code. Many of our clients and customers prefer to pay via check; if elect to pay this way, please allow for reasonable processing time before shipping. This processing delay may be waived for repeat customers or customers with payment terms. For our credit and debit card-wielding customers, we offer on-site payment processing for your convenience. If, by chance, you prefer to pay in cash, we'll send you a receipt for your (and our) records. We can even accept Venmo, if that's easiest for you! Don't worry about the processing fees, we'll absorb them. Some say it's the cost of doing business, we say: it's the cost of earning your business.

Because we are a custom fabrication shop, deposits are required for most work. If a material deposit is required, it usually ranges from 25-50% of the total invoice amount, depending on the project; the remainder is due upon completion. Installation services generally do not require a deposit, unless sufficient travel is involved or specialized tools and/or equipment rentals are necessary. Because we use deposit funds to purchase project-related materials, deposits are non-refundable after material has been purchased and/or production has started; except where dictated explicitly by law.

Our shop and installation schedules are filled on a first come, first served basis. Naturally, we will discuss your project's ideal time frame early in our conversations; we will also discuss our availability at that time. We can typically get your project going pretty quickly, whether that's in shop work or on-site!

Yes, we can. A mock-up is essentially a small sample (think: the size of a poster board) of whatever we're building together. For example, if we're trimming around windows, a mock-up would show how the apron, stool, casing, etc. would come together. Having mock-ups made is a 'step further' in making design decisions and are often unnecessary for small projects; but, if we are trimming 50 windows, it might make sense. If we're looking at wall cladding, a mock-up might be a poster-sized board with the sample cladding on it, showing the larger pattern. Some people order custom mock-ups to use as a backdrop for product photography.

You don't need to do the whole room to make a big difference. If you need more than a sample but less than a wall, that's no problem. Enough to cover a door? Kitchen island? The side of your desk? Your Zoom background...? We've got you covered. Check out the shou sugi ban clad salad bar we did for Whole Foods as an example of what you can do with just a little bit of material. We love small custom projects! Our pricing is based on material, not how big or small your project is. Invite Fusion Custom Furniture and Design, LLC into your home or workspace with any size custom project!

We are a boutique operation that can be a big help to your project.

For commercial customers, millwork companies, and designers, we are your custom fabrication, millwork, and installation partner! On the 'large' side, our shop manufactured the millwork for a large event center venue and our installation team handled the cabinets, millwork, and siding for several multi-family residential parks. On top of that, we are proud to have played a role in some very cool projects—the Moody Center, Antone's nightclub, Austin Proper, several Whole Foods stores—where we have carved out a niche for fabricating centerpieces and supporting contractors and design teams with reliable results. That's experience we carry with us in every project we take on; whether it's for your small business or your client's corporate headquarters.

We partner with contractors large and small to get their projects done. Oftentimes, we subcontract for casework and finish work for your residential, multi-residential, or commercial projects. Whether we are fabricating for your project or simply performing your casework and trim installation, we have a proud history of tackling your trickiest sticking points.

For residential customers, the scope of our on-site work generally falls under the category of "finish work". In some cases, permitting is not required for our projects (e.g. trim, wall cladding, cabinet / fixture installations). However, state and local building and occupancy codes vary and it can be necessary to seek permitting before starting work, even on relatively 'minor' projects. As a result, we perform a thorough review of all applicable building and permitting requirements and work strictly within legal boundaries when planning and executing on your project. For a "major rennovation" (such as a kitchen remodel) that involves plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or the work of another regulated trade, we are happy to coordinate with appropriately-licensed contractors throughout your project.

Strange question, right? Until it isn't. Yes, we encourage video conferencing and meetings, whenever possible. Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, FaceTime, whatever. Our phones work, too, of course; but, it's fun to stop by the virtutal shop! Plus, everyone saves on time and fuel. To set up a video conference with us (for the first time), simply fill out our contact us form and check the "video conference" option. Be sure to let us know what date/time works best for you and which platform you prefer.

NOTE: ALL FaceTime meetings must be PRE-ARRANGED; we can work with short notice, but we will not answer unannounced FaceTime calls.
